A fireside chat examining the future of space education and talent development was convened by AmCham Abu Dhabi, in partnership with the Space and Rocketry Academy (SARA UAE), represented by Compass International. The session explored how experiential learning and early exposure to space sciences are shaping the next generation of global space leaders.
The discussion focused on the role of hands-on education in preparing students for careers in aerospace, STEM, and innovation-driven fields, while highlighting the UAE’s growing ambitions in the space sector. Participants examined how programs such as SARA UAE are creating structured pathways from education to future workforce participation.

Opening remarks were delivered by Lina El Labban Lampkin, Chairwoman of AmCham Abu Dhabi, who welcomed Donald Thomas, veteran NASA astronaut, scientist, and educator. Dr. Thomas shared reflections on his career and the importance of early inspiration in shaping future scientists and engineers, drawing on personal experiences that underscored the long-term impact of experiential education.
The session was moderated by David Donald and featured contributions from Lissy Donald, Managing Director of Compass International and SARA UAE, and Rory Johnstone, Aerospace Engineer and Head of Curriculum at SARA UAE. Speakers discussed curriculum design, industry alignment, and the importance of sustained collaboration between education providers and the broader aerospace ecosystem.
The conversation highlighted the UAE’s continued investment in space and advanced sciences, as well as the role of education-led initiatives in supporting national innovation goals and long-term talent development.
AmCham Abu Dhabi acknowledged the contributions of the Arts, Culture & Education (ACE) Committee, led by Co-Chairs Emma Shortt and Sara El-Dallal, for advancing the session.
