Candidate’s Statement

As a seasoned leader with experience on the Boards of Trustees at WMHT Public Media and St. John’s University and involvement with the Public Relations Society of America, I will apply my skills and expertise to help drive strategic growth at AmCham Abu Dhabi. I propose expanding networking events to increase member engagement, launching mentorship programs to support professional development, and creating an innovation hub to foster USA-UAE business collaboration. With my governance expertise and strategic vision, I am committed to implementing these initiatives, ensuring tangible results, and advancing AmCham’s mission over the next 1-3 years.

Candidate’s Bio

Martin A. Mbugua leads the Office of External Relations and Communications at New York University Abu Dhabi in articulating and defining the university’s unique distinctiveness, raising its profile as a new model of higher education, and fostering its reputation globally. 

Martin joined NYUAD in 2021 with over 20 years of experience developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing plans, media and external relations, issues management, internal communications, brand management, and journalism. He previously worked in communications and marketing at U.S. institutions of higher learning, including Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Skidmore College. Before that, he was a reporter for the New York Daily News and other publications.
